The body wave is such a fluid movement that a complete and true ripple through the entire body is extremely difficult. Many gymnasts wave their arms around in the pretence of doing a body wave, but so often the body itself is doing very little. For this reason, I suggest that the learning stage should deal solely with the movement of the spine, with the arms eventually following the movement rather than initiating it. There are a number of practices which will help achieve the right sort of feeling for the body wave. 1. Stand with the feet a little way apart, and with the arms out sideways, try to flatten the back, keeping the head in line with the body. You might need someone to correct your position or stand sideways on to a mirror turning your head to see if you have achieved a completely flat back position. 2. From the position described above, lift the shoulders and round the top part of the spine, pulling the stomach in and pressing the shoulder blades upwards. 3. Relax the knee …

It was then that the International Gymnastics Federation gave official recognition to the various apparatus exercises, the rope, the hoop and the ball, and set up the first World Championships which were held in 1963. Not until some times later were the clubs and the ribbons events included. Since 1963, the World Championships have been held every alternate year, this being the major competition in the international calendar for rhythmic gymnastics. Gradually, other competitions have been introduced, European Championships were inaugurated in 1978, and then a Four Continents Championship, but the ultimate recognition for the sport was its inclusion in the Olympic Games for the first time in Los Angeles 1984. Current rules state that no more than two gymnasts per country are eligible for the Olympics, and that qualification is necessary before entry into the competition is allowed. The qualifying competition is a sudden death affair, just one chance in the World Championships preceding …

In the fifteen years, as it has become established, the sport has changed dramatically, not just in the United Kingdom but abroad as well. Today’s lifestyle is becoming more and more fitness dominated, and a healthy approach to life, is being seen as of vital importance. With changes in employment trends and the building of sports centers and leisure complexes, an awareness of the advantages and need for leisure activities is ever growing. Already, children are being encouraged to participate in health related fitness programs, since they are becoming increasingly important in schools today. Along with some of the newer minority sports and activities health related exercises are included in school physical education programs, particularly for children in the 11 to 16 years age range. Here, too, we are seeing the introduction of rhythmic gymnastics, though this is spreading into primary and middle schools also. There was a time when children instigated their own playtime games in schoo …

The term has also come to denote the warm up exercises themselves. In some instances this term is even used to signify the part of the class that has barre exercises. The ballet bar may be mounted on a wall. Many companies now manufacture free standing barres as well. The bars are made of wood or metal. The standard height of most bars is around 40 inches. This can be adjusted according to the height of the dancer in the free standing variety. The ballet bar is an important part of training for novice dancers. The waist-high bar helps dancers steady themselves during the initial part of training. The bar provides a reference point in exercises and ballet routines. It can also be used to provide resistance to the legs and arms in exercises. The bar is also the novice dancer’s first partner in most cases. The exercises done on a ballet bar are slow in pace and generally repetitive. The exercises aim at improving the dancer’s posture and enhancing the body’s steadiness. The exercises per …

There are few if any people out there who know more about the sport of gymnastics. In 1981 Bela defected from Romania which accounts for his funny accent. In 2008 he is covering gymnastics for NBC alongside Bob Costas. Bela Karolyi would seem to be the ideal choice to provide commentary on Olympic gymnastics. Except for one thing. He is very difficult to understand. The ability to understand Mr. Karolyi is further complicated by the fact that when he gets excited he talks faster. By the time I have figured out what he said in the beginning there is a complete volume that I have missed. I was wore out by the time he was done giving his commentary. It was literally work trying to decipher his golden nuggets of input. You may perceive from the tone of this article from the beginning that I am going to suggest that NBC could have picked a better analyst for women’s gymnastics. That is certainly not the case. I must conclude that in the end it was worth the effort. He certainly is a wealth …

The guests at a 21st birthday party are at the peak of their athletic abilities so if weather and local zoning permit challenging games can be planned for this party. Those who have access to specialized fields will want to utilize those for softball, beach volleyball or even riding and racing. For most people though the space is limited to the backyard and imagination and energy are more readily available than stables and riding habits. A couple of fun and rowdy possibilities include Crab Football and Backyard Hoops. The trick here is to make up rules loosely based enough to include all who wish to participate. Everybody is familiar enough with basketball to loosely organize a quick game on the driveway. Make rules that keep the competition at your 21st birthday from getting too serious and so windows and barbeque grills stay in tact. Crab Football is something like soccer, played with the largest and strongest beach ball available. The difference is that the players move around on t …

Having been in the MLM industry for over a decade, I agree that having a super-strong “compelling why” is important. I also think that having some knowledging of MLM how-to is just as important, if not more important. I see a lot of people come into the MLM industry for all kinds of great reasons. Some people want to earn just enough to cover their car payment while others want to launch themselves out of poverty. All of those reasons are perfectly valid so long as they motivate people to keep moving forward in their businesses. But no matter how good the “compelling why,” people start hitting roadblocks as soon as they get to the “how to” part of the equation. Fired up on their dreams, people dive into this business with no clue as to how to work their business. Not only do they have no idea what to do, they don’t know how to do it, or how long to spend doing it. So if you’ve got a great “why” for your business but are clueless in the MLM how-to department, ask yourself the following …

It is estimated that there are over 3 million children participating in gymnastics in this country. USA Gymnastics, the Olympic governing body for the sport of gymnastics, has seen a 37.5 percent increase in the number of private clubs over 5 years. There are as many as 4000 gymnastics programs in the country. Better Students and Better People There are many reasons for the increase in the numbers participating in the sport. One of the reasons is the role that gymnastics plays in the noticeable improvement of gymnasts as athletes, students and as a person in general. Gym owners and coaches have found this personal growth of their gymnasts is one of their primary motivations in their continuing participation in the sport. The More the Merrier Even though it may seem counter-intuitive, most gymnasts maintain their current good grades or improve their grades when they join a gymnastics team. In spite of the numerous hours (10 40 hours in the gym) they spend in the gym training, their g …

The more common ones are the holidays such as president s day, the 4th of July, and anything to do with elections. If anything people seem to think the latter is one of the best excuses. The main problem is, since there are so many possible occasions, people may get tired of doing parties especially those of the same theme. As such do try to take into account if your party guests actually want a party. The patriotic themed party is luckily, very easy to put together. The colors you should use are the obvious; red, white, and blue, and well, you can basically just take all of your ideas from the flag if you want. As such you should make sure you don t forget to add plenty of stars and stripes. Sparklers and fireworks are very popular; just make sure to leave all the major stuff to the professionals. If you want to fly a flag there are some things to remember, they are to be flown from sunrise to sunset, and only too be disposed of in fire as an honor. Also on Memorial Day the flag is t …

Some of the jumps and leaps which are commonly used and which form a fundamental part of the sequence are: 1. Tuck jump. Take off from one or two feet, bring both knees up high in front of the chest and land on two feet. 2. Komat jump. Similar to the tuck jump with knees up in front, but take off must be from one foot only, and the knees come up one after the other. Legs change in the air, so the landing is on the other foot. 3. Split leap. Leap forwards from one foot to the other, legs splitting wide, and reaching a horizontal position in the air, one forwards and one backwards. 4. Stag leap. Similar to split leap, but front leg is bent under, back leg remains straight. Take off and landing can be from one or two feet. 5. Side leap. The difficulty of getting both legs up to the horizontal position becomes very apparent in the side leap. From a forward take off, the body makes a sharp quarter turn and then the gymnast must consciously work to lift both legs at the same time, forcing t …

What a lot of people do no realize is that these men used gymnastics and bodyweight moves to gain their freakish strength. One of the movements most utilized today with wrestlers as well as many other athletes along with power lifters is the wall walk. Essentially, you are walking on your hands and the full version takes you to the brink. When you are first starting out, there are a lot of people who cannot or never have been able to get a full hand stand. If you are one of these people, you are going to have to perfect that handstand before you can take on the challenge of the wall walk. If you are already past the challenge of the regular hand stand, then you are ready to give wall walking a serious shot. I will warn you that if you have any signs or symptoms of vertigo or dizziness on a regular basis, you will not want to attempt this at all. Doing so could make your symptoms more recurrent or worse. No one wants to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, ge …
