However, before launching into the practice of take offs, it is vital that the landing technique is worked upon. So many gymnasts land heavily and so risk damage their knees, feet and even their spine that the coach must ensure before all else that the gymnast can land safely and well without jarring either legs or back. The landing should be very resilient, toes touching the floor first, and then the rest of the foot, the ankle, knee and hip giving into the floor to cushion the landing. The following are some exercises for practicing landing: 1. Perform small jumps on the spot, feet together, stretching the feet and pointing the toes in the air, and bending the knees on landing. These small jumps when performed with the feet turned out slightly are called saut s. 2. Jump from both feet from a low height, bench or box top, to land on the floor, feet together, landing with control and resilience. 3. Run and spring from one foot, landing on two feet with resilience. 4. Run and leap, tak …

You can begin to learn these from the simple half time jogging skip. Begin on the spot, then start to travel with the skip step, skip step, and gradually extend the skip over the rope into a bigger leap. You must push from the take off foot and stretch the front leg forwards in order to get more height and get a stretched position with the legs. If you are supple, and can get the legs wide, you will be able to show the splits position in the air, thus performing what is called the split leap. You should feel the arms making a really big circle, stretching high overhead and then swinging down at the side of the body during the leap. Once the technique of the split leap is learned, a second leap could be added so two are performed in succession (if landing from the leap on the left foot, take a step and immediately push off from the right foot into the second leap, the leap comes on the same leg every time. Alternatively, the front leg can be bent up and then straightened during the lea …

There are cheerleading clinics that train cheerleaders how to execute their stunts properly and effectively. Among the cheerleading stunts perfected throughout the years are toe touches, pikes, hurdlers and herkies. Toe touch is the most popular stunt and the easiest to execute. It s done by making one clean jump with both legs spread in the air while the hands touch the toes. The least favourite is the pike, because one virtually has to fold their body in half while in mid air. Stomach muscles have to be strong in order to jump high and perform the stunt. Tumbling is also a big part of cheerleading. It includes back tucks, back handspring, back walkovers, cartwheels, aerials and round offs. The easiest is the cartwheel, as almost all kids are required to this in physical education classes. Aside from the spectacular stunts performed, cheerleaders are also responsible for spotting and catching their teammates who do the potentially dangerous stunts. If teammates are not caught prope …

The term has also come to denote the warm up exercises themselves. In some instances this term is even used to signify the part of the class that has barre exercises. The ballet bar may be mounted on a wall. Many companies now manufacture free standing barres as well. The bars are made of wood or metal. The standard height of most bars is around 40 inches. This can be adjusted according to the height of the dancer in the free standing variety. The ballet bar is an important part of training for novice dancers. The waist-high bar helps dancers steady themselves during the initial part of training. The bar provides a reference point in exercises and ballet routines. It can also be used to provide resistance to the legs and arms in exercises. The bar is also the novice dancer’s first partner in most cases. The exercises done on a ballet bar are slow in pace and generally repetitive. The exercises aim at improving the dancer’s posture and enhancing the body’s steadiness. The exercises per …

They allow the gymnast to move in an unrestricted manner. They fit like a glove to the body and they move with each motion the gymnast makes. As for where it gets its roots, Jules Leotard, a French acrobat felt that acrobats needed a garment that allowed them to move. He called it a maillot, but the name was soon changed to match that of its maker. The details Gymnastics leotards are very comfortable in order to allow the gymnasts to perform their tricks. It is made up of a thin and flexible fabric that is only one piece. The torso is completely covered, but the legs may be exposed. For men, they usually cover the legs. They can also be made in many different colors with different patterns that make them visually appealing. Men and women both wear them when practicing and performing their gymnastic routines. Without leotards, the sport would be considerably difference and the level of skill may not be as high as what it is today. As for the designs, they can have different neck lines …

Some of the jumps and leaps which are commonly used and which form a fundamental part of the sequence are: 1. Tuck jump. Take off from one or two feet, bring both knees up high in front of the chest and land on two feet. 2. Komat jump. Similar to the tuck jump with knees up in front, but take off must be from one foot only, and the knees come up one after the other. Legs change in the air, so the landing is on the other foot. 3. Split leap. Leap forwards from one foot to the other, legs splitting wide, and reaching a horizontal position in the air, one forwards and one backwards. 4. Stag leap. Similar to split leap, but front leg is bent under, back leg remains straight. Take off and landing can be from one or two feet. 5. Side leap. The difficulty of getting both legs up to the horizontal position becomes very apparent in the side leap. From a forward take off, the body makes a sharp quarter turn and then the gymnast must consciously work to lift both legs at the same time, forcing t …

Airzone 38-Inch Mini Band Trampoline Lots of jumping fun for one! Mini, 38″ trampoline features tension bands, a durable powder-coated steel frame and a sturdy polypropylene surface. Measures 38″ in diameter x 13″ high. Customer Review: Fun but could be sturdier. It’s a good trampoline for little kids. Two 4 year old can even jump on it together. It can hold an adult fine, but I noticed after using it VERY lightly for a couple of weeks that one of the legs is no longer straight. It’s not bended, but is at a wrong angle to the circular frame. I am quite disappointed by this. Customer Review: Tough to assemble I expected that the legs would not be on; but I never expected the difficulty I encountered assembling the rails and mat. The instructions have a warning: “3 adults in good physical condition are required for the following assembly. Wear proper shoes and maintain balance to prevent a fall.” Good advice, but there is no way of knowing the problems you can encounter until you get it out of the box and see the assembly instructions. I got the rails and mat together; and it did take 3 adults. I never could get the safety pad to fit.
