There are the large commercial camps that only operate in the summer and are designed to attract large numbers of gymnasts for huge profits. There are also other gym programs, ranging from YMCA programs to regular gyms to college programs, that use this as an additional profit center. Large Commercial Camps Charging the highest prices, these camps offer a wide-ranging array of normal camp activities (even a variety of different types of camps) in addition to their version of gymnastics training. Coaching quality varies from college gymnasts to college coaches free for the summer to coaches who just happened to bring their team along to the camp. The best-known name coaches at these camps are usually either the camp directors and do little actual coaching or are merely visiting. Customer Review: A general weightlifting text
This book is nothing special in my opinion. I bought it expecting a discussion of how weight training can benefit gymnastics training. Unfortunately all I got was a general discussion of how to lift weights. There was little on programming, a decent discussion on periodization, and a good discussion of general lifting exercises…but why do you need general lifting exercises? There’s nothing special here. It gives a decent, but not great, overview of how to lift for general conditioning and strength training. Basic questions such as:
How to incorporate weight training with gymnastic training
What lifts will help you power through sticking points in which gymnastic techniques
No discussion of appropriate volume.

In gymnastics, the lack of qualified coaches is perhaps the biggest problem. The sport is growing at a rapid rate and there were not enough coaches (of any experience level) before. No Place for Coaches to Learn There are many reasons for this and a number of deficiencies in the coaching pool. The largest problems is that there is no place for anyone who is interested to go to learn how to coach correctly. There is no college, University, trade school or even central source of information where you can go to learn how to coach and the higher the level you aspire to coach, the less information and resources there are. Bad Coaching Habits and Practicesare Passed On Coaches in this country learned how to coach either from how they were coached themselves or by mimicking another coach in the gym.
