Johnson beat her friend and teammate Nastia Liukin on the balance beam in the last of the Olympic games gymnastic events to win the Gold. Johnson performed a powerful routine, as always. The 7.0 start value of her routine was the highest in the competition. She finished with a huge grin, scoring 16.225 to take over the lead. Liukin went next. Though she is the reigning world champion on the beam, her start value was 6.6, the third lowest among the eight final competitors. Her routine was graceful and smooth, as opposed to Johnson’s routine which was filled with difficult tricks. She finished with a 16.025 score, not good enough to pass Johnson, her on-going rival and Olympic roommate. When you add up the time a female gymnast actually performs in the Olympic Games, it seems fifteen minutes is just about right. Floor exercise and beam routines are one minute thirty seconds each, the bar routine takes about one minute, and two vaults at thirty seconds each comes out to about 5 minutes of actual competition. If you count the 5 minutes of competition in the compulsory portion of the Games, then another 5 minutes in the optional competition, and if the gymnast qualifies to compete on every apparatus in event finals, you could add another 5 minutes for a total of fifteen minutes of potential fame. Wow, the best fifteen minutes of your life! Unless, of course, you get your face plastered all over cereal boxes too! That is the dream of many young girls watching the Olympic Games on television. This year (2007) I turned 12 and so I decided to look for my old Barbie Team Gymnastics Game, since I am a Level 4 gymnast. I installed it and went through the intro video and then, when I tried to practice vault, I got that stupid error message CPU Not Returned. I got really angry and finally decided to search for a patch.
